Regulations for Competition 2026

FESTIVAL DATES
FOREWORD
: October 26th -November 4th, 2026
: The Tokyo International Film Festival (hereafter referred to as TIFF) regulations follows the regulations
for International Film Festival set forth by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations
(FIAPF).
ARTICLE 1: Eligibility
To be considered for the Competition section, all submitted films must meet all of the following:
(1) Must be films completed after January 1st, 2026.
(2) Must have at least their Japan Premiere at TIFF. World and International Premieres will be given priority.
Japanese films must have their World Premieres at TIFF.
(3) Films that have been publicly released online (Internet/streaming), on TV (including IPTV), in-flight
entertainment, or commercially sold in formats such as DVD/VOD are not eligible.
(4) Must be feature-length films with a minimum running time of 60 minutes. Short films are not eligible.
(5) Screening material should be in digital format in high-definition format, with English subtitles.
* These conditions may be subject to change.
* All films submitted for the Competition section may be considered and invited to the other sections of TIFF.
* Films submitted in previous years will not be considered in principle.

ARTICLE 2: Awards
For the main Competition section, TIFF will award the following prizes in accordance with the decision by the International Competition Jury.
-Tokyo Grand Prix

-Special Jury Prize

-Award for Best Director

-Award for Best Actress

-Award for Best Actor

-Award for Best Artistic Contribution
*The cash prize is to be announced.
ARTICLE 3: Entry for Pre-Selection
(1) Entry Form
All films must be submitted via the official TIFF website (http://www.tiff-jp.net).
Those who are qualified according to the conditions of ARTICLE 1 hereinabove may apply by submitting an online screener from the entry form.

(2) Submission Period and Entry Fee
Early Bird Submission: April 7th - May 26th, 2026 / 3,300JPY
Regular Submission: May 27th- July 7th Noon JST, 2026 / 5,500 JPY
* Payment is accepted by credit card only.
* Once the submission fee has been paid, it is non-refundable under any circumstances.

(3) Online Screeners
· Screening links must be provided via the entry form.
· Screeners must include English subtitles (unless the film is originally in Japanese or English).
· Links must remain valid until the end of September 2026.
· Links requiring account creation, special downloads, or non-standard access procedures are not acceptable.
· Once the screener is submitted, updated versions cannot be considered.

(4) Result Notification
Results of the pre-selection will be emailed in mid-September 2026.

(5) Submission Agreement
Participants are deemed to have fully understood and accepted all regulations. Any matters not specified herein, as well as any questions arising therefrom, will be resolved by TIFF in accordance with FIAPF regulations.
ARTICLE 4: Selected Films
(1) Required Materials
Participants whose films have been selected are required to send the following materials to TIFF.
(a) Entry Sheet (provided by TIFF)
(b) Dialogue lists in original-language and English Subtitle list, excluding Japanese spoken film.
(c) Digital Photo Data: main photo of the film, sub-cuts of the film, and the director photo
(d) A file of the final version of the film with English subtitles.
(e) Trailer and Excerpts of the film in mov. File
(f) English Press Kit.
(g) Poster in a data file (high resolution, B1 size)

(2) Screening Materials and Subtitles
English subtitled DCP should reach the designated address, by mid-September.
* For English dialogue films, English subtitles are unnecessary.
All films will be screened in the original-language version with both English and Japanese subtitles,
except for films in English, which will be shown with Japanese subtitles only.

ARTICLE 5: Understanding & Acceptance
The person responsible for the submission must agree to the following:
· Once the Agreement Form for official selection has been signed, the film may not be withdrawn from the Festival.
· Shall ensure that no third party (e.g., a Japanese distributor) interferes with this agreement.
