FAQ for Festival Submissions

General Information

1. How do I submit?
Submissions must be completed through the official website: www.tiff-jp.net/en/
Submissions sent by email will not be accepted.
2. What are the submission deadlines and fees?
Early Bird Deadline : May 26th, 2026 / 3,300JPY
Regular Deadline : July 7th, 2026 Noon JST / 5,500JPY
3. Does the submission deadline affect the selection process?
The only difference is the submission fee.
All submissions are processed and viewed in the same manner.
4. Can I choose which section my film will be considered for?
Applicants cannot select a specific section at the time of submission.
This entry site is for submissions to the Competition section; however, submitted films may also be considered for other sections.
5. Do you accept works in progress?
Yes. However, as we cannot consider the updated version, we recommend submitting an edit-locked version.
6. What is your preferred format for submission?
    Do you accept PAL DVD or Blu-ray?
The preferred submission format is a password-protected streaming link (e.g., Vimeo). If an online screener cannot be provided, NTSC DVDs may be accepted. PAL DVDs and Blu-rays may not be compatible with our playback equipment.
Applicants who choose to send a DVD must submit two (2) NTSC DVDs to the address below.

All DVDs must be shipped prepaid and insured, and packaged securely in appropriate containers.
Materials must be received by TIFF no later than July 7, 2026.

All submitted materials will not be returned.
7. Can I update my screener after submitting?
In principle, updated versions cannot be considered. Please ensure that the submitted screener is as close as possible to the final version.
8. When will I be notified of the selection results?
All submitters will be notified by email in mid-September. Please ensure that the email address provided in the entry form is valid and up to date.
9. Can I receive feedback if my film is not selected?
Due to the large number of submissions, the festival is unable to provide individual feedback regarding selection decisions.

Eligibility

1. Do you accept documentaries, animations, or short films?
Documentaries and Animations are eligible.
Short films are not eligible.
All submissions must be feature-length films (over 60 minutes), including animation.
2. Does premiere status matter?
    What are International and Japan premiere?
Yes. All films submitted for TIFF maintain at least a Japan premiere, meaning the film must not have had a public screening in Japan (including theatrical release or festival screenings).
World and International Premieres are given priority.
For Japanese films, a World Premiere is mandatory.
· World Premiere : The film has not had a public screening anywhere.
· International Premiere : The film has not had a public screening outside its country of production.
· Asian Premiere : The film has not had a public screening in Asia.
· Japan Premiere : The film has not had a public screening in Japan.
3. May I submit films that already has a Japanese distributor?
Yes. However, please obtain the distributorfs approval before submitting the film so that the selection committee may review it.
